Victorian home set for charity auction

A fully furnished four-bedroom home in the Victorian suburb of Wollert will be auctioned off in this year’s Good Friday Appeal.

The Royal Children’s Hospital’s annual Easter fundraising drive will see the home auctioned off on Good Friday, with no reserve.

Last year’s home auction raised $790,500 for the Royal Children’s Hospital, and this year auction organisers hope to get a similar result.

It shouldn’t be hard with a home as lovely as this. The two-level house in Villawood Properties’ Rathdowne community comes with luxury fittings and fixtures, along with four living areas, an expansive master suite, professional landscaping, and decking.

The community project rallied hundreds of tradies and suppliers to build the home – totally free of charge. Henley Homes Victorian Building Manager Mark Glenn says it was a no brainer to provide the property for the appeal.

“Every person connected to the charity home build, from Henley Homes and Villawood to all the trades and suppliers, have a personal connection to the cause, or are very aware of the significant work and service the Royal Children’s Hospital provides,” he says.

“In fact this year, the house will feature a half-court basketball court in the backyard – giving the house an additional wow factor for any family to fall in love with.”

A central open-plan area connects four disparate living spaces with a dining room and a kitchen.  There’s plenty of light coming in through the floor to ceiling windows, and chic pendant lights above the kitchen island only contribute to the sense of light and space.

The kitchen alone is worth the auction! Stone benchtops, built-in storage, stainless steel appliances and a glass splashback all contribute to a design that’s practical and effortlessly modern.

Dark-stained timber stairs float to the second floor, where four generous bedrooms wait. The master bedroom enjoys plush carpets,  its own en suite, and another strikingly modern chandelier. Even better, there’s access to your own private balcony right off the master suite!

Villawood Properties Executive Director Rory Costelloe said it was good to be gearing up again after COVID forced last year’s auction to a tender process.

“For one successful bidder, they will not only purchase a beautiful family home in a great location, they will have also had the knowledge that they helped many young patients at the Royal Children’s Hospital,” he said.

“We’ve picked a prime spot within walking distance of all the best Rathdowne has on offer, including the residents’ club and the proposed town centre.

“This will ensure an enviable lifestyle for whoever places the winning bid at the 2021 RCH GFA Charity House Auction.”
