Come with us on a walk through 23 Vimy St in Bardon, Queensland…
“In Brisbane’s north-west leafy suburb of Bardon, Danielle is adding the last finishing touches to a home she’s just transformed from an old two-bedroom pole house to this: the ultimate contemporary masterpiece she’s just put up on the market.
“Welcome back to another episode of OzHomeNews. I’m your host, Natasha and I’m at 23 Vimy Street, where Danielle is waiting to show me around.
Natasha: “Danielle, this is incredible! This looks nothing like a rundown cottage now.”
Danielle: “Absolutely, so we raised the original cottage. We built underneath to give us 4.2-metre ceilings and we added a wine cellar.”
Natasha: “Sounds like a huge job, did you think you could do it?”
Danielle: “At times, absolutely not, but we got there in the end.”
“Built underneath the old house, the living and dining room embraces the morning light and breezes. Her contemporary style shines through the extension.
“In the kitchen, Danielle has chosen these cylindrical exhaust fans for a sleek and trendy design. Just to complete the brass finish took six months. Integrated cabinets are also paired elegantly with stone countertops and oak herringbone floors.”
Danielle: “So we integrated the balcony area with the pool area, down to the amphitheatre stairs to the backyard.”
Natasha: “So you really extended this place?”
“Looking at the home from back here, it doesn’t look like the same house we saw from the front. It’s black, boxy but still beautiful, and up there, set in a windowed room of its own, a tub with a view of the whole garden.
“Upstairs on the top floor, it’s mostly ‘out with the old’, but not with everything.
Natasha: “This is the original part of the home?“
Danielle: “Yes it is. This is the original cottage. We kept the original VJ wall and turned this into a children’s retreat.“
Natasha: “Fantastic. I love the artwork.”
Danielle: “It is beautiful. It’s by a local Baron artist called John Wren, who kindly put them in the house for us for sale.”
“The five bedrooms are cozy and comfortable but most impressing is the master suite.”
Natasha: “Wow, much bigger than I thought this was!”
Danielle: “It is, so this is the master retreat, which we kept completely separate from the rest of the house.”
“The spotted gum feature wall infusing warmth and depth into the space. The bathroom inspiring tranquility with my favourite calming colour scheme, and it’s not the only sophisticated design around here.
Natasha: “I’m breathless.”
Danielle: “It is beautiful isn’t it?”
Natasha: “This is everything I’ve always wanted.”
Danielle: “It’s gorgeous. So, with the design we decided to go for… more a contemporary shop front where you can get ready up here and then all your practical things are down the bottom.”
“Tackling a renovation of this scale is no walk in the park. It’s taken Danielle 14 months to complete but she says it’s worth it. The end result? A home that’s comfortable, inviting, and suitable for the modern-day family.”
