A tightly held Strathfield home sold for $5,502,000 on Saturday – the highest auction sale in Sydney over the weekend.
The elegant property, at 41 Newton Road, drew huge interest during its successful marketing campaign, and after selling for $652,000 above reserve, left the vendors over the moon.
Listing agent Tarun Sethi, of Richard Matthews, said: “The vendors are absolutely stoked. The home was in the family for 36 years and they are very, very happy with the result.”
Located in proximity to Strathfield Station, the six-bedroom property’s prime position offered unrivalled potential which can now be seized upon by the new owners.
“It’s a rare offering in a prestigious location on one of the premier streets in Strathfield,” said Mr Sethi.
A hotly contested auction saw almost 100 bids made on the charming property, with around 250 onlookers in attendance to witness the action.
“There were 12 registered bidders on the day. The bidding started at $4.4m and the reserve was set at $4.85m,” Mr Sethi said.
The property sits on an impressive 1,416 sqm tennis court block, and the highest bidders now have plans to transform their purchase into their dream home.
“The buyers are from out of area, and they are looking at knocking it down and rebuilding,” explained Mr Sethi.
