It is fair to say that Melbourne’s ongoing lockdown has made things difficult for the real estate industry, but despite the testing conditions, this luxury Toorak pad recently transacted for around $6 million.
The regal four-bedroom property, at 81 St Georges Road, is an iconic period home set in a blue-chip location just minutes from Toorak Village.
Damien Davis, of Jellis Craig, who helped negotiate the sale said: “The home is magnificent, it is a sensational 1,450sqm parcel of land with a tennis court at the rear.”
And the eye-catching home has quite the backstory. Built in the 1930’s, some of its quirks and features are still gloriously presented.
“The home was built by a builder for his wife who had always wanted to live in a castle – that’s why it looks like it does with the turrets,” said Mr Davis.
“More recently it has had the same owners since 1975, as a family home back then but it has been an investment property for the last 12 years,” he said.
The property is one of few luxury homes in Melbourne to transact recently as lockdowns hinder the market, luckily for this special property, a buyer had manged to take a look around on several occasions before striking a deal.
“The buyer had seen the property a couple of times before lockdown started and then negotiations continued during lockdown,” said Mr Davis.
“If we could actually do anything, the market would be very good at the moment. It’s just that we can’t hold inspections and so on because of the lockdown,” he said.
“For example, I put a property on the market last week and it was online for three days before taking it down again once the lockdown was extended. And in those three days I had 22 inquiries and three contract requests.”
