Queensland time capsule worth millions

 Queensland time capsule worth millions

A 70’s time capsule less than half an hour south of Brisbane has been revealed to the world after it was listed for sale earlier this month.

The three-level mansion at 70 Grassdale Road, Belmont, was proudly built in the ’70s and is now available to buy, priced at around $4 million.

Queensland Sotheby’s International Realty agent Tyson Clarke says it’s been just the one set of owners since it was built.

“The current owner built it and that’s how they lived,” Tyson says. “There have been no renovations, there was no need. It’s been kept in perfect conditions for all these years.

“Everything in there is original.”

Set back behind a tree-lined, circular driveway and ornate iron gates, the brick and concrete dwelling recalls memories of the ‘me decade’. On the first floor, eye-wateringly bright magenta carpet covers the floor of a joint games/entertaining lounge. A mirrored wet bar at one end of the space creates the perfect party atmosphere, with room at the other end for a regulation pool table.

On the west side of the estate, a combined living and dining zone has its own boldly patterned carpet and wallpaper, and fantastic additions like vintage chandeliers and timber columns.

Two of the six bedrooms are found on the first floor, as well as a separate family room, an office, and an open kitchen space.

Up a flight of stairs – carpeted in a riot of yellow, white and brown – the remaining four bedrooms split off a central gallery, perfect for showcasing knickknacks and treasures. Here you’ll find a large master bedroom, complete with its own balcony, a walk-in robe and a retro en suite. Up here is also where you’ll find the home’s most exciting feature – an 80sqm ballroom with soaring, 12.5-foot ceilings and its own balcony.

“The home was built for entertaining on a large scale and for a big family to live in,” Tyson says. “It’s a really big, unique home.”

Aside from the house, the 4.7-acre holding hosts an angular in-ground pool with eclectically coloured flagstones, and a fenced tennis court by the eastern side of the building. That’s not even counting the expansive basement workshop and storage, or the three-bay shed.

“There’s been quite significant interest from locals and interstate,” Tyson says.

“It’s always been an iconic home in the area and it’ll be great to see who takes the reins on this one.”
