Landmark estate sets record after selling for $6.5m

A luxury rural estate in the NSW Southern Highlands has set a record after selling for $6.5 million after less two weeks on the market.

The private sale sets the benchmark for the village of Berrima and comes as a wave of Sydney buyers look to snap up some of the hottest regional properties on the market.

Sandie Dunne of Dunne Real Estate negotiated the deal for the vast estate and says she was flooded with inquiry from people looking to purchase luxury weekenders.

“A lot of wealthy buyers from the Eastern Suburbs and the North Shore who are looking for their weekend escape were interested; especially with COVID, there’s a huge demand down here for this kind of property,” she says.

“It’s a very big and glamorous house and it’s only 12 years old,” Sandie explains. “It suited the people coming down from Sydney who just wanted a weekender.”

The residence features a stone cottage, stables, a 12-metre indoor lap pool and its own private lake.

“It’s on a private road away from the main roads so it’s very quiet and the location is really good because it’s close to all the main townships but still with very much a country feel to it,” Sandie says.

“The appeal of it was really its size. Most similar properties you’re looking at 100 acres of land or above, but this one only has 20 acres, which is much more manageable for the type of clients that were interested.”

The vendors were happy to sell up as the property was superfluous to their needs, according to Sandie.
