Thrill seekers in Melbourne are in for a real treat after plans for the largest indoor-outdoor waterpark in the southern hemisphere have officially been submitted.
If given the go-ahead, SurfnPlay Aqua Park in Dingley Village, 23 kilometres south-east of Melbourne, will become an aquatic heaven for adrenaline junkies, with a ground-breaking wave pool capable of creating 6-foot waves included in the plans.
Diversified property group, Pellicano, are behind the $100 million waterpark masterplan which also features 1.82 hectares of indoor pools and a lazy river for those looking to take it a bit easier.
Initial proposals were launched 18 months ago, with Pellicano Managing Director, Nando Pellicano, confident that the revised plans will go down well with the City of Kingston.
“After hearing some of Council’s main concerns, we challenged our design team and our construction division to be smarter and more efficient – the response by them has been terrific,” he said.
“We have been a lot more scientific about how we approached the built-form, and only put the height where it was needed, whilst still maintaining an architecturally impressive building, I’m pleased to say that we have been able to reduce the building mass by over 30%, while still maintaining all the rides we previously had,” said Mr Pellicano.
The new state-of-the-art surf park will enable Melburnians of all surfing abilities to ditch the city for the surf in under an hour, no matter the weather, with the new facilities creating six waves per minute!
“We always wanted to accommodate a surf park within the facility, but, at the time of lodging back in 2019, WhiteWater West – our equipment provider – did not have its technology finalised.”
We are pleased to announce that the company has now finalised its Endless Surf offering, the first of which is being built in Paris – meaning our waterpark has the opportunity to become just the second in the world to offer this unbelievable technology.Pellicano Managing Director – Nando Pellicano
