A former celebrity haunt featured in OzHome News’ luxury walkthroughs has sold at auction for $2.25 million.
The historic home at 2 Grays Road, Hamilton, went to auction on Saturday, March 20 with multiple registered bidders, and further offers waiting.
“The sellers are over the moon, it’s a great result,” Place Ascot agent Drew Davies says.
“It goes to show how buoyant the market is.”
The 607sqm property has views over the Brisbane River and city, and a fascinating past. Built in the early 1900s, the home played host to the Spanish consul, a variety of Brisbane socialites, and was even the site of a shocking murder in the 50s.
Its historic charm has been carefully preserved, particularly on the ground floor.
The joint dining and living space has its walls painted a rich blue, which pairs beautifully with the blue diamond accents in the leadlight windows. Timber floors and metal pressed ceilings have an aura of restrained luxury, perfectly set off by the marble fireplace.
“It was one of Brisbane’s finest homes and it’s been maintained and subsequently had a succession of notable owners who’ve contributed to its prestige,” Drew says.
The multi-level home enjoys four bedrooms, but the grandest can be found on the top floor. Up here a renovated master suite enjoys fantastic balcony views, while the inside is just as lovely. Sparkling chandeliers reflect off elegant hardwood floors, while rich brown walls create a restful atmosphere for sleep.
The home was one of two Drew sold at auction over the weekend, and he says the sale outcome was great.
“Auction is the best strategy at the moment, especially for properties like this that are going to be highly competed for,” he says.
“It’s not one size fits all but it is absolutely working at the moment. We’ll be getting results like this for a while to come.”
