En-suite design dos and don’ts

 En-suite design dos and don’ts

Whether you’re planning your dream en-suite or updating your existing one, there are a number of things you need to bear in mind in order to achieve the crème de la crème of en-suites. Dishing the inside tips, we spoke to managing director of Paco Jaanson and design veteran, Ari Zorlu. Paco Jaanson has been synonymous with the latest world trends in bathroom and design, offering unique products with a European flare that stand the test of time. Read on for Ari’s do’s and don’ts when it comes to creating your ideal en-suite.

DO

Choose the right surface

First impressions are important but it’s what’s inside that counts with surfaces. Select a ceramic or porcelain tile as your go-to flooring, as the bathroom’s moisture will not cause damage. Ceramic basins are also a reliable choice. The growing range of statement pieces and pedestal sinks available in these materials will make your space eye-catching without compromising functionality and longevity.

Pick the right colours

Play it safe by selecting neutral colours for your bathroom. When it comes to the higher-end products such as showers, baths and basins, selecting a neutral palette will give you the flexibility to display accent and statement colour pieces as the seasons and trends change. You can then use your bathroom as a blank canvas and inject your creativity into the design as it goes.

Opt for Storage

Functionality is key to every well-designed en-suite, especially in a smaller space. Storage for bath towels and toiletries should be easily accessible and shelves or cupboards with a minimalist design works best in drawing more attention to your trophy pieces.

DON’T

Skimp on tapware

It is extremely tempting to opt for cheaper showerheads and taps; however, these utilities should be considered as an investment. Not only are they being exposed to moisture and human contact, but if a problem were to arise, the effort and cost to maintain and a potential repurchase will be timely and costly.

Rush the process

It’s easy to get excited and try to fast track the design and building process to finish your bathroom sanctuary as quickly as possible. Consult the experts and shop around when selecting your bathroom pieces to set a realistic timeline. Then take your time to ensure that all your requirements and desires are brought to life.

Focus on the current trends

Look towards designs that complement the basic elements of your bathroom. Let the trends be the accessories and pieces of your en-suite that can be easily changed, updated and personalised.
