A fine Sydney home went under the hammer on the weekend, setting the highest sale price for the suburb of Burwood so far this year.
The remarkable property, at 17 Ethel Street, was sold for $5,315,000 after a hotly contested auction was won by a buyer moving from Southern Sydney.
Richard Matthews Real Estate agent, Ken Miyagawa, told OzHomeNews about the property and his delight at such a good sale price achieved during the midst of the COVID crisis.
“It’s beautiful, it’s a record-breaking sale for the suburb of Burwood in 2020,” he said.
“COVID hasn’t slowed us down, we’ve had even more transactions recently, business has been good.”
The five-bedroom home sits on an impressive block of over 1,700sqm, with Mr Miyagawa pointing out that along with the size, the location and charm are what had two determined bidders fighting over the property at auction.
“The property was built in 1890 and it is a solid built home, rich in character,” he said.
“It’s in a very good location, very close to Burwood train station and Burwood shopping centre.
“The property had a $5 million reserve and there were six registered bidders.
“The bidding started off at $4.5 million with two bidders competing very happily all the way up to the final sale price of $5,315,000,” said Miyagawa.
It’s smiles all round after the successful buyers managed to secure the property they set their eyes on and the vendors are moving to a waterfront house in the neighbouring suburb of Concord.
“The final purchasers were upsizing from Carlton, they fell in love with the house and really wanted it,” explained Mr Miyagawa.
