A grand Georgian estate that featured in the TV shows The Bachelorette and My Kitchen Rules was purchased at the end of 2020 for $7.2 million by a local buyer – setting a suburb record in the process.
The landmark seven-bedroom acreage property smashed the previous highest sale price for the suburb of Kenthurst, north-west of Sydney’s CBD.
Ben Jobberns of Guardian Realty helped negotiate the deal for the Gone with the Wind-inspired pad and tells OzHomeNews what makes it such a special home.
“It’s one of the best properties I’ve ever seen in the Hills District,” Ben says.
“It’s a very opulent house and is probably one of, if not the biggest house in the Hills District.”
Set on five luscious acres 40 minutes from the centre of Sydney, the iconic property features an indoor spa, wine chiller, gym, a theatre room, tennis court and even a separate three-bedroom guesthouse.
“It even has a dome in the foyer that’s a replica of the dome that was in Cher’s house, as in Sonny & Cher,” Ben explains.
“The previous owner actually had the artist who built that original dome flown out from the US to commission that same piece in this house.”
After receiving intense interest from Sydneysiders, the home sold a couple of days after its eagerly anticipated auction for above initial price predictions.
“It sold for above our expectations,” Ben says.
“The Kenthurst record was $6.68m prior to this sale and we were expecting something in the very high $6 million range, and this exceeded that comfortably.”
