Agent of the Week: Tolemy Stevens

Agent of the Week: Tolemy Stevens

Introducing Tolemy Stevens, who is this week’s Agent of the Week and who has made quite the name for himself on the Gold Coast, specialising in the sale of luxury penthouses and apartments.

We spoke to the high-performing Harcourts Coastal agent and picked his brains on the state of the Gold Coast real estate market and how he made his way up the ranks to the position he is in today.

Dad’s Advice

Tolemy studied a Bachelor of Justice at QUT in Brisbane, but after getting itchy feet two years into his studies, he soon realised that he was ready to take a different route.

“I have always had a lot of energy and love socialising with people, and since a young age I have had an appetite for real estate and amazing homes, so the interest was always kind of bubbling away,” he said.

“And one day I was reading the real estate section in the newspaper and my dad said to me, ‘I think real estate would be perfect for you.’”

“So, I said, ‘Ok dad, sounds great, I’ll give it a crack.’”

After starting off as a cadet with Ray White Surfers Paradise, where he won cadet of the year for Queensland, Tolemy knew that he had found his path.

“Almost from the moment I stepped foot into the industry, it grabbed me, and I haven’t looked back ever since – it just felt right,” Tolemy said.

The Melbourne born agent then became known as a bit of low-rise specialist in the area but always had aspirations of selling beachfront real estate.

The Next Step

After ten successful years with the Ray White, Tolemy parted ways with the group and joined Harcourts Coastal.

“I met with the managing director of Harcourts Coastal, Dane Atherton, for a coffee, and you could say that the rest is history.”

“I have never looked back. I loved his energy and passion. He was taking a leap of faith with me, so I said, ‘Well I’m going to take a leap of faith with you,’ and it was the best decision I’ve made in my career.”

Since joining the Harcourts Coastal team, Tolemy has really stepped up his game, selling some of the country’s most sought after real estate on behalf of celebrity clients, with great thanks given to his boss who has backed him every step of the way.

“Dane has been such a good mentor for me and has allowed me to get to the next level and has continually pushed me to become the best person and agent that I can be.

“I cannot thank Dane enough for what he has done for me, he has been the most instrumental person in my career who has made me into an elite agent.”

Every day I’m Hustling (Except Sundays)

Tolemy has certainly put in the hours to get where he is today, and does whatever it takes to get the job done for his clients, but Sunday is his day of rest.

“I work six-day weeks, from 6am until however late I have to, but Sunday is the day I spend time with my family.”

“I have a little two-year-old daughter which is enough to keep anyone busy, and having a family has significantly changed my life for the better – I absolutely love it!” he said.

“It’s really important when you are dealing with clients and managing transactions to take the time to reset so you don’t burn out.”

When he is not selling luxury real estate, or spending time with his family, Tolemy likes to give back to the community by helping out with charity group Rosies.

“It is very rewarding to help people out who have unfortunately taken a bad turn or have had a bit of bad luck in their life.

“By going out and offering a conversation or a warm meal to someone who needs it not only helps out the community, but also makes you stay humble and appreciate life just that little bit more,” Tolemy said.

Word of Advice

So, what does it take to become one of the big boys in the real estate industry?

“There is no secret recipe, it just comes down to hard work and discipline,” Tolemy said.

“You have to find a way to turn on that fire inside you and get that insatiable hunger and appetite for success.”

“When you have that mindset and that laser focused determination to do whatever you have to do to make it happen, I can guarantee you that it is possible for anyone to become one of the top performing agents in the country.

The Market

Whilst some of the country’s property markets stagnate due to the impact of COVID, the same cannot be said for the Gold Coast, with Tolemy describing the recent months as the best he has experienced post GFC.

“The luxury beachfront real estate market is on fire at the moment,” he said.

“It is almost the perfect storm really as Queensland has escaped any major lockdowns and our house prices represent significant value, the sun is shining on us at the moment and everyone wants to be a part of it.”

“The Gold Coast has the sun, the sand and the surf, it is a lifestyle that everyone wants – particularly since everyone is cooped up at home.”

Incredibly half of Tolemy’s transactions in the past couple of months have been made via Facetime as many buyers from the southern states, unable to travel overseas for a vacation, are opting to purchase a holiday home on the Gold Coast.

“Our real estate has always been undervalued, properties here in comparison to the Sydney and Melbourne are extremely cheap, the vale you for money on the Gold Coast is second to none,” Tolemy said.

“I’m very humbled that I have been able to carve out a career, which is only really just getting started, in one of the most beautiful areas in such an amazing country.”
