Maclay Longhurst of Bresic Whitney is this week’s OzHomeNews Agent of the Week!
After a record-breaking week in sales, we caught up with Sydney born real estate agent to find out a more about his journey in the industry.
Tell us about your story and how you started out in real estate
“I kind of fell into real estate actually, I met Ivan Bresic through a mutual friend and he convinced me to do some work experience with him.
“So I did two weeks work experience and then got a job with him in leasing, that was 14 years ago and now I’m a director of the company.
“I worked as a leasing consultant for three and a half years and went through the appropriate steps necessary for my career, which, looking back, I am very grateful for.
“The best thing I did was two years before I went out on my own, I stayed within the team and within the incubation of a successful environment to build my profile and my relationships.
“That way, by the time I went out on my own, I could hit the ground running.”
Any mentors or inspirational figures along the way?
“The three people that have mentored me throughout my career are Ivan Bresic, Shannon Whitney and William Phillips.”
Any large sales or big moments in your career that stand out?
“There has been a few!
“This week was certainly one to remember, I had six sales on Thursday and a total of $29 million in sales this week.
“That’s a company record and my own personal best too.”
What’s your favourite thing about working in this industry?
“I like watching the enjoyment of clients achieving great results and helping buyers find their perfect home, that is a really rewarding part of the job.
“We have a really fun work environment at Bresic Whitney too. We try and keep things pretty light here, we work very long hours but we have fun whilst we’re at work,
“We try not to be too serious, obviously there are things we take very seriously but we always have a very positive attitude in everything we do.”
Would you do anything differently in your career if you were to turn back time?
“No, and the reason why is because I’ve had a great career, the upward trajectory has been really steep and I’m really proud of how quickly I’ve grown and developed as an agent.
“There has obviously been bumps along the way as everyone experiences in their career, and it hasn’t always been easy.
“But those times have been times of learning and development and I would never take back the chance to learn and develop at any time.”
Where would you like to be in 10 years’ time?
What do you get up to in your downtime?
“I’m keen on anything to do with the saltwater.
“I love surfing and being outdoors and near the water is always really important for me.”
