Agent of the Week: Jody Fewster

When it comes to selling property, Jody Fewster is dynamite! She co-founded her own Ray White branch in August 2018, and since then has earned a string of awards, including Chairman’s Elite, and REIWA Number 1!

Tell me about your story and how you started out in real estate?

Prior to selling real estate professionally, my husband and I spent 10 years buying, renovating and selling real estate in Mosman Park and Peppermint Grove. So I knew the pricing and fell into selling, thinking I was on my way back to the corporate world! I’m still here because I’m good at it, having fun, working with a great team and loving selling.

What did you really want to be when you were growing up?

I still don’t know! I knew I would be involved in running a business.

Any mentors or inspirational figures along the way?

Whilst all the professors at Harvard Business School were incredible, two in particular are forefront in my mind – Professor Michael Porter who taught me Corporate Strategy, and Professor Leonard Schlesinger who taught Service Management.

Any large sales or big moments in your career that stand out?

Having three in the top 5 Western Australia residential sales for 2020 is a real highlight. I earned that with $27.5 million, $14 million and $8 million sales. Interestingly it’s the sub-$1 million sales that I am loving as they have rhythm about them, and lots of buyers make for great competition.

What do you get up to in your downtime?

I love to cook and eat out.

What’s your favourite thing about working in this industry?

Helping people achieve their property goals. We meet really interesting people and it’s pure joy when you have lovely sellers and buyers.

And your least favourite?

There are times when people need to move for reasons out of their control and there are a lot of emotions involved. Deaths and divorce are a driver of real estate transactions and those situations can be quite stressful. 

What advice would you give to yourself if you were starting out?

Don’t kid yourself it’s a flexible job, and don’t think you can short cut the journey. As a great friend once told me, it’s a five-year apprenticeship!

Where would you like to think you’ll be in 10 years’ time?

Spending six months a year living in Tuscany learning Italian cooking and the language. More realistically, I think our business will be greatly expanded and I will spending less time actively selling and more time coaching new sales reps on best practices in the sales process to get them the best possible sales outcomes.
