After working in retail and marketing for nearly 20 years, Alex Ehsani decided it was time for a change. Fast forward a year and a half and he’s handling multi-million dollar sales for Coronis Inner North, and now he’s OzHome News’ Agent of the Week!
Tell me about your story and how you started out in real estate?
“I moved to Australia in 1998 when I was 20, and started in retail. I did that and marketing for quite some time and ended up with some contacts in real estate. Eventually, they put me through to Coronis and from there it’s been one hell of a journey, with COVID and all that.
“I received really good support from the team here and I’ve grown within the business, and now after 12 months I’ve had my first multi-million dollar listing!”
What did you really want to be when you were growing up?
“I wanted to be a soccer player – obviously that didn’t happen.”
Any mentors or inspirational figures along the way?
“I’ve had some great mentors throughout my career, but in real estate there’s been three people.
“Andrew Coronis has mentored me and guided me through the entire journey and Tamika Kent and Karuna Dimelow are two fantastic, supportive agents, in fact Karuna is assisting me with my first multi-million dollar listing.
“The support I’ve received is unbelievable. I’ve been in sales for a long time, but without their help I might not be here.”
Any large sales or big moments in your career that stand out?
“My largest sale to date was $1.35 million, and I’m dealing with $2 – $5 million buyers at the moment, but the current listing is game changing, it’s significantly higher.
“It’s definitely exciting, and it just shows that if I can get to this in 12 months, I probably can double that in the next 12 months.
“You have to start somewhere and my goal is to be one of those multi-million dollar sale agents in the next 12 months, so watch this space.”
What do you get up to in your downtime?
“I like to watch Netflix, and of course spend time with my family – my partner and I have three boys.
“Raising three boys is challenging, but it’s a lot of fun, and we probably did the same things to our parents!”
What’s the most interesting thing you’ve come across in your time working in real estate?
“It’s interesting how challenging the sellers and buyers can be. A lot of people think real estate is easy, that agents don’t do much work, but its the other way around.
“There’s a lot of work and stress involved, to win the listing and be able to sell it and get the maximum, it’s not that easy.
“Right now the market is strong but it’s not always like that. It’s like a good game; it’s challenging and exciting and I enjoy it.”
What’s your favourite thing about working in this industry?
“Meeting people. Being able to help your buyers and sellers move to the next stage.
“Real estate is different to everything else. If you’re selling you have lots of memories you have to let go, or if you’re buying, especially if you’re a first home buyer, you’re creating your future.”
And your least favourite?
“To be honest, I enjoy all of it. I’m the type of person that answers their phone no matter the time of day because I want to be there. Sometimes my partner complains, but mostly she understands!
“Real estate is like a game, if you want to be a winner you have to be in it.”
What advice would you give to yourself if you were starting out?
“If I could go again I would’ve started at least ten years earlier, and I’d say to believe in yourself.
“You have to do that, and you have to be patient and listen to your vendors’ and buyers’ needs. Some agents chase vendors but not buyers, but I believe equally the right buyer is important.
“So I guess the other piece of advice is never judge a book by its cover.”
Where would you like to think you’ll be in 10 years’ time?
“I want to continue to grow and excel within Coronis. The entire team, the help and support everyone has given me has played a big part in helping me grow to where I am at the moment.
“In ten years time maybe I’ll be one of the directors, but I want to be known for my good service, that’s the ultimate goal.
“I want to be known as someone that has the sellers’ and buyers’ trust.”
