$160m Plans Unveiled for Luxury Retirement Village

Plans have been launched to transform a historic waterfront site on the Mornington Peninsula into a state-of-the-art retirement community.

Australian-owned developer, Hengyi Pacific, plans to build 105 dwellings across eight two-storey buildings on the 3.41-hectare site whilst maintaining three existing 19th century buildings.

Hengyi Pacific General Manager, Simon Manley, said: “We were very sympathetic of the site’s history and wanted to be careful not to overcapitalise on the built form.”

Plans for the development, ‘Beachleigh’, include a new wellness centre, gym, library and cinema whilst the historic chapel building will be converted to a public café.

“The heritage component was a big appeal for us so we’ve been working closely with Heritage Victoria and our heritage consultants to restore and find an appropriate adaptive re-use for the heritage buildings,” said Mr Manley.

Beachleigh will be located at 33 Jacksons Road, Mount Eliza, and is Hengyi’s first retirement living project with Mr Manley saying he is excited by the new venture.

We wanted to create something the whole community could be proud of, something that the public could enjoy just as much as those who live there.

VIA Architects and landscapers Tract have been tasked with the design of Beachleigh with VIA director, Mark Allan saying: ‘’VIA Architects is proud to design the next chapter of this rich and storied site.”

The project is also set to regenerate over 200m of waterfront as Beachleigh aims to utilise some of Victoria’s most idyllic coastline overlooking Canadian Bay and afar.

“The design encompasses a warm and thriving community with spectacular views of the Port Philip Bay,” said Mr Allan.

The development is set to create 200 local jobs while construction is ongoing, with further jobs to be created upon completion across administration, management and operations.
